Don't Let Me Down And Down

Lyrics and music by Tahra and Martine Valmont

Still I keep my love for you
No place to hide no way to fall
Nowhere to lie no world so wide
I'm sick and tired of telling you
Don't let me down and down and down
Don't let me down and down and down

I know there's something in the wind
That crazy balance of my mind
What kind of fool are you and I?
Scared to death and tell me why
I'm sick and tired of telling you
Don't let me down and down and down
Don't let me down and down and down

Still I keep my love for you

You made a date with destiny
You jog-jog in my memory
You haunt in mind not fade away
I'm sick and tired of telling you
Don't let me down and down and down
Don't let me down and down and down
I'm sick and tired of telling you

Still I keep my love for you
No place to hide, no way to fall
Nowhere to lie no world so wide
I'm sick and tired of telling you
Don't let me down and down and down
Don't let me down and down and down

This information about the original writing of this song comes from Emmanuel Pasqualini of France:

This piece of work was actually recorded by a Mauritanian princess called Tahra (credited) for inclusion on a french released CD. She wrote both the words (in Arabic) and music. Her then French producer, Martine Valmont (also credited) who happens to be a friend of mine, translated it into English, changing the words to refer to a friend of her that had died (as far as I know).

Iman came to visit Tahra in Paris circa 1993, listened to the song and loved it immediately. She brought the tape back to Switzerland and persuaded Bowie to rework it. You'd have to hear the original version to comprehend the immense input that Bowie put into the song!!! It was originally scheduled for a single release but the bankruptcy of Savage records in the US prevented it from single promotion campaign.
